Welcome to karlyburns.com

Karly was born on 1st February 1986 and sadly was taken from us on the 27th June 2013. Her 27years here were fulfilling and eventful. Karly's heart was pure, she was gifted with courage, determination, resilience and an abundance of talent. Her life was a true reflection of love and beauty, she loved her family and her many friends and they loved her back.

From an early age Karly was determined to match her younger brother Philip in everything they attempted from riding a bicycle to swimming and in all things intellectually they both excelled.

Karly's passion was art and she set out to win herself a place at art school, not just anyone but the Glasgow School of Art  (GSA). From humble beginnings at Inverkip Primary, Gourock High, the Arts Guild, then onto Reid Kerr College in Paisley, Karly worked relentlessly to win a coveted place at the GSA. She succeeded and was rewarded with an honours degree in painting and printmaking, selling most of her works at her degree show. Karly remained for another year to complete a masters degree. Karly had become not just an accomplished artist, but also a talented writer.

Through an introduction to the Big Issue Foundation with Maggi Upton, Karly developed an empathetic ability to work with social arts projects which she continued till her passing.

Karly achieved all this fighting a life long battle with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). In the end the illness won but not without leaving a legacy of a beautiful life well lived.

Please browse Karly's gallery for examples of her artwork and photos of community projects and exhibitions she had the pleasure of being involved with.

The NHS and the charties involved with (CF) were of great assistance to Karly  and her family. The treatment and healthcare for (CF) patients is improving all the time and if you would like to contribute to a  (CF) charity please follow the links below. Whenever you think of Karly make it a day to wear something pink.
